Brihat Jataka by Varahamihira

Brihat Jataka is considered as one of the five main founding stones of Indian astrology. Varahamihira, the great Indian astronomer wrote several books on astrology and Brihat Jataka is one of them. This is a must read for all the students of Vedic astrology. There is no question about its authenticity and greatness. Varahamihira was one of the nine jewels in the Imperial Court of King Chandra Gupta, Vikramaditya. This book reflects the genius of Indian culture. For at least 1500 years this book is followed by the astrologers of India.
At present only a very few Bengali astrologers read this book as it was not readily available in Bengali translation for a long time. SO, I am uploading this book. But I will do so in two parts. Today I am giving the first part and within some day I will upload the second part and a English version also.
This is the first time that this book came in digital version and this is an exclusive upload of jyotishbooks.tk

The Complete Palmist By Ina Oxenford and A. Alphues

This is a wonderful work on palmistry. I am recommending this book as its language is lucid and the authors have tried to make the book suitable for beginners. The authors have clearly stated that the book is based on opinions of Edger Heron Allen, Cheiro and others. Some critics said that this book has influenced Comte de St Germain a lot.

Astrology For Beginners - B.V. Raman

This book was written in 1940 and still back to back editions are coming out - this shows how popular this book is! One of the greatest modern day astrologers B.V. Raman has written in a lucid language keeping in mind that the book is designed for the novice.
One of my best friends Jay Banerjee (Rongon) had requested me for a book suitable for beginners. So, I am preferred this. Jay is a very busy person, being a reputed Opthalmist of U.K he don't have much time to spend and that is why he requested such a book. I hope, this book will provide him necessary knowledge.
This is an exclusive content of this blog. This is THE FIRST TIME that this book (Astrology For Beginners - B.V. Raman) became available in the Internet.

Sex Signs By Judith Bennett

"Sex"! As if it is a taboo word in Indian sub continent - which can not be discussed in front of the others! But clasical Sanskrit texts have discussed the matter with full extent - unpareleled in the world of literature. Its penacle is "Kamasutra". In Vedic astrology also, the seers discussed the matter with full emphasis. What was the mental state of both partners during intercourse, their relationship etc. can be determind with the help of birth data of the baby!!
But, this book is a Western one. Here the auther has discussed in details about the choise, preference and mentality of sex. One can know about his/her partner with the help of only the date of birth.

Hath Er Vasha (Language of the Hand) by Cheiro

Cheiro, (William John Warner) is the most successfull and the most celebrated palmist of the world. He is the most successfull writer on palmistry also. He was a legend in his life time.
Born in Ireland, he took the name "Count Louis Hamon" or "Count Leigh de Hamong" and then, "Cheiro" - derived from "Chiromancy" which means "palmistry".
He had successfully predicted that the King Edward VIII of England will refuse the Throne for his love! This incident became an epic and at that time, Chiro was in the pinnacle of his career! (by the way, Amrita Bazar Patrika of Calcutta was the first news paper in the world to deliver such a "breaking news"!)
In his autobiography, he said that he had learnt palmistry in India and his guru was a Brahmin. Though, some of the Indian scholars has suspected this as a "business gimmick" as in his books he has never described any thing that supports this. Most of the basic points of his style is very much different from the Indian style and much more closed to the European one. As of example, he said the heart line ends under the mount of Mercury but in Indian style it starts from their. He mainly followed Edward Heron-Allen, Captain Casimir Stanislas D'Arpentigny and Adrien Adolphe Desbarolles.
His books of palmistry are the most circulated palmistry books in the world.
But, in my point of view, he is not the greatest writer of the subject. One can read his books as a primary reading.
This books was originally scanned, processed and uploaded by Ayan, the Admin of the most popular and celebrated Bengali books site "pathagar.net". I am grateful to him because he gave me the permission to post it in my blog.

Planetary Influences on Human Affairs By B. V. Raman

In his life time, B.V. Raman was one of the most influential astrologers in the world. He was the face of the modern Indian Hindu astrology.
Why I should read books on astrology - this is a eternal question!! This fantastic book tries to explain this to the reader and tries to influence him! In this short span, the author tried to give some of the basic questions regarding astrology, including "what is astrology" and "what is the relationship between man and planets".
A lot of readers are asking for basic level books. So, I decided to start from the very basic point - what is astrology! Whithin some days, I will post  some more basic books.

Bhrigu Samhita

“Bhrigu Samhita” in Bengali was translated by “Meen Jatak”. It is now out of print for a long period. I am posting this at first and within some days I will post its Eng translation also.

Bhrigu Samhita is written by Maharshi Bhrigu. It is said that the original complete Bhrigu Samhita has been destructed by Muslims during their invasion of various parts of India. The destruction of Nalanda University caused the main blow.

At present, an authentic version is said to be kept at India Office Library of London. It has a staggering 74649600 horoscopes in it! It was preserved by Mr. Buller.

I have a piece of work where Mahatma Gandhi’s predictions has been depicted. I will post it also. Any one will be astonished to see the accuracy!!

The book I am uploading is not a “Samhita” but it has some formulae to predict in the way of Maharshi Bhrigu.

In “Satya Yuga”, once Swayamvub Manu performed a Yagna. At that time, the question arose – who is the greatest among the Trinity? The greatest among them will get the main offering of the Yagna.  Maharshi Bhrigu, the son of Pitamaha Brahma, got the job to decide as a representative of the Brahmins. During the examination, Maharshi Bhrigu kicked in the chest of The Lord Vishnu, marking a permanent sign! Vagaban Vishnu apologized to him, thus it was proved that Lord Vishnu was the greatest. Maharshi also apologized to Him and was pardoned at once!! But, the Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, cursed Maharshi and the Brahmin community as a whole as he is the representative of the Brahmins, declaring that Maharshi has insulted The Lord Vishnu. As per the curse, the Brahmins will be deprived of wealth. But, as Maharshi was pardoned by Lord Vishnu, Goddess asked him and the Brahmin community to practice astrology to earn their living. Thus, Bhrigu Samhita was written.

The original Bhrigu Samhita is said to have been preserved in Hosiarpur of Punjab and also in Varanasi and in Chidambaram still today. But these are only fragmented parts. Bhrigu Samhita is said to have records of all the individuals of the world with their full details of past, present and future births!

There is a nice story about the foot print of Maharshi! In brief, when Devi Ganga (the river Ganges) asked Lord Vishnu about the holiness of the Brahmins, the Lord replied that, in Vaikuntha (the home of the Lord) everyone looks alike, all has four arms!! No one can determine who the Lord of the universe is until he sees the foot print of the Maharshi in the chest of the Lord as it is unique to Him!! The Lord himself bears the foot print of a Brahmin in his chest – this describes the holiness of Maharshi Bhrigu and the Brahmins as a whole!
